Bamboo Sieve: Coarse

A traditional bamboo sieve designed for the application of gilding, allowing the delicate sprinkling of precious metal dust or flakes. This technique is commonly employed in the traditional Japanese method known as Sunago, which involves embellishing a delicate backdrop with torn fragments of gold, elegantly scattered across the paper.

To master the correct technique, place the metal leaf or metal leaf flakes (referred to as Kirimawashi) into the sieve and gently agitate it using a pounding brush (Tataki brush) to sift out the particles. The size of the dispersed metal leaf can be controlled by selecting an appropriate mesh size. Therefore, it's crucial to always opt for a mesh that aligns with your artistic vision.
